Three things I wish I knew before my first business.

  1. Sell it before you stock it.

Pre-sell, take orders, run a small test. Inventory you can't move is the most expensive lesson in business.

  2. Price for every fee.

Platform fees, shipping, returns, vouchers. If your price doesn't survive all of them, you're paying to stay busy.

  3. Your business is not your ATM.

Pay yourself a fixed salary and leave the rest in the business. Otherwise you'll never know if it actually makes money.

About me

I'm an entrepreneur. Not a coach, not a guru.

I'm Spencer Keh. I run [two businesses — names], and everything I write about comes from decisions I've made with my own money: the good ones and the expensive ones.

Before building my own businesses, I graduated summa cum laude from UP Diliman, became a Certified Public Accountant, and worked in private practice. So I look at a business from the numbers side first.

  • Certified Public Accountant
